Iceland‘s 2026 Sustainability Index

Iceland‘s 2026 Sustainability Index (Sjálfbærniásinn) is out - and we‘re at the top of the list!

Össur and Embla Medical were recognized in the Sustainability Index 2026 (Sjálfbærniásinn), an independent Icelandic benchmark assessing sustainability performance based on public perception across multiple markets.

The results were presented on 6 May 2026, with 17 companies recognized for strong sustainability performance. Companies achieving exceptionally high scores also received special recognition.

We received an outstanding score of 81 out of 100,  ranking highest among companies operating in international markets and second overall in Iceland.

Why it matters?

• Benchmarks 14 key industries, enabling comparative benchmarking from banking to aluminum.
• Scores range from  0-100; anything above 70 equals excellent performance.
• Companies can’t buy their way in – inclusion is determined by market share and brand familiarity.

In addition, Bergþóra Hlíðkvist Skúladóttir, Global Sustainability Director at Össur and Embla Medical, participated in a panel discussion at the event.
